IDFR was first established under the Prime Minister’s Department on 1 July 1991 following a Cabinet decision dated 6 March 1991. It was officially launched on 12 August 1991 by then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Its aims were to provide basic training for future diplomats of Malaysia and several selected developing countries, as well as to provide follow-up training for those officers already in the diplomatic service. On 27 March 2004, IDFR officially became part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia.



ASEAN LECTURE SERIES:Building a People–Oriented ASEAN Community :Challenges and Opportunities

A public Forum on “Building a People-Oriented ASEAN Community : Challenges and Opportunities” is being held today, 10  August 2010, at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Kuala Lumpur to commemorate the 43rd  Anniversary celebration of the establishment of ASEAN.  The event is jointly organized by IDFR, University Technology    MARA (UiTM) and the ASEAN – Malaysia National Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia.

Diploma in Diplomacy (DiD)
The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) conferred on 15 officers the Diploma in Diplomacy at a gala dinner held at the Multi-purpose Hall, IDFR on 25th June 2010. The officers from Wisma Putra, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tourism Malaysia and Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) had successfully completed a 6 month Diplomatic Training Course conducted by IDFR.

Najib Announces New Chairman And Members For SUHAKAM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) --Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Monday night announced the appointment of new members of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) with Tan Sri Hasmy Agam becoming the new Chairman. He is the Executive Chairman of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), which is under the Foreign Ministry. The former Chairman of SUHAKAM was Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman.
