IDFR was first established under the Prime Minister’s Department on 1 July 1991 following a Cabinet decision dated 6 March 1991. It was officially launched on 12 August 1991 by then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Its aims were to provide basic training for future diplomats of Malaysia and several selected developing countries, as well as to provide follow-up training for those officers already in the diplomatic service. On 27 March 2004, IDFR officially became part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia.



Course for Spouses of Heads of Missions
The Course for Spouses of Heads of Mission commenced on Monday, 25 January 2010 and saw the participation of 23 spouses of serving senior Wisma Putra officers. It was organised to further develop and enhance the spouses’ knowledge in performing their roles and responsibilities effectively abroad.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad, the patron of PERWAKILAN and wife of the Foreign Minister. In her Opening Remarks, Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah proposed that the spouses of the ministry’s heads of mission be allowed to work abroad, since most of them were highly educated and skillful in their respective fields.

Commencement of Diplomatic Training Course for PTD Officers 2010

Monday, 4 January, marked the start of the Diplomatic Training Course (DTC) for PTD Officers 2010.

 Organised at least once a year, it is one of the core courses at IDFR. It is offered to newly appointed officers of Wisma Putra and other government departments dealing with diplomacy and international relations.

The Keynote Address will be delivered by Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.—President and Founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and former Assistant to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
