IDFR was first established under the Prime Minister’s Department on 1 July 1991 following a Cabinet decision dated 6 March 1991. It was officially launched on 12 August 1991 by then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Its aims were to provide basic training for future diplomats of Malaysia and several selected developing countries, as well as to provide follow-up training for those officers already in the diplomatic service. On 27 March 2004, IDFR officially became part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia.



Diplomatic Update 2006: Diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific

The Director General of IDFR, Ambassador Dr Fauziah Mohd Taib presented a paper on "Regional Developments in Diplomatic Persuasion, Framing, Securitisation and Socialisation: A Malaysian Perspective" at an International Conference in Canberra on Tuesday, 14 November 2006. She was among the 11 scholars and diplomats from Australia, the UK and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region invited to speak at the Diplomatic Update 2006, whose theme was "Diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific: Changes & Challenges".

IDFR Received Visitors from Kenya

IDFR, 13 November: A visit by a Kenyan delegation started the buzz of activities at IDFR for the week.

Received by Puan Hanem Omar, Director of the Language Centre on behalf of the Director General, the delegation was led by Mr Mark K. Bor, Secretary/Chief Executive, Permanent Public Service Remuneration Review Secretariat of the Kenyan Government. They were also joined by the Kenyan High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. David Gachoki Njoka.

DTC Participants’ Attachment Programme in Tokyo and Beijing

The two groups of IDFR’s Diplomatic Training Course (DTC) participants will be leaving on 12 November 2006 for their attachment programme at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo and Beijing respectively. The group to Tokyo will be accompanied by Zarina Md. Yusuf and Alex Chee, IDFR Officers, while the group to Beijing will be accompanied by Mohd Haniff Abdul Rahman, Deputy Director of Training and Rozanah Ibrahim, English Language Officer.
