The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR recently organized a highly informative and engaging Course on Intercultural Communication and Cultural Diplomacy (CICAD)” from 23 to 24 May 2023. This course aimed to equip the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key elements, theories, and practices of cultural diplomacy while fostering intercultural awareness.
27 participants from 11 ministries attended this training which covered various topics such as Intercultural Communication, Cross-Cultural Communication, Cultural Intelligence, Madani Values in Malaysian Multicultural Society and Cultural Diplomacy and Nation Branding. The participants are from Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Ministry of Communication and Digital, Department of Chemistry, Malaysia, Department of Federal Territories, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Prime Minister’s Department and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
The course was thoughtfully designed to provide practical knowledge through engaging talks, interactive discussions, and stimulating simulation exercises. This approach encouraged active participation and facilitated the exchange of valuable information among the participants. Throughout the duration of the course, the significance of cultural diplomacy and its profound impact on interactions were explored. The participants also managed to gain a glimpse of Wisma Putra’s experience in managing its cultural diplomacy through Bilateral and Multilateral Relations
Overall, the Course on Intercultural Communication and Cultural Diplomacy was a resounding success, equipping the participants with the vital knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of intercultural communication and promote cultural diplomacy in their respective ministries and roles.
