The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) successfully concluded the AI@Work: Innovating Diplomacy Course, that was held from 18 to 20 November 2025 at the Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The three-day programme, organised by the Centre for Leadership, Negotiation and Public Diplomacy (LNPD), was designed to equip government officers with practical skills in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance their daily tasks and strengthen diplomatic work. The course was attended by participants from Wisma Putra, the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) and IDFR.
In line with the national agenda, the course aimed to build digital competencies aligned with initiatives such as MyDIGITAL and the Public Sector Digitalisation Strategic Plan. The key objectives were to enhance participants' practical understanding of AI, strengthen officers' skills in using AI tools to improve productivity and communication, and cultivate an innovation-oriented mindset that encourages continuous learning and the use of digital tools. The course featured an interactive methodology, including hands-on activities, guided demonstrations, and group discussions. Participants gained practical skills in leveraging AI for crucial tasks, including preparing documents, analysing information, drafting reports, and managing communication. Among the key modules explored were ethics, governance, and responsible AI use; AI and Large Language Model (LLM) fundamentals for diplomacy; data analytics and visualisation made easy; and enhancing communication and content creation.
In conclusion, the AI@Work: Innovating Diplomacy Course highlighted the vital role of adopting AI technologies and an innovative mindset in public service. This transformative training equips officers to navigate the digital landscape effectively, enabling them to leverage cutting-edge tools to enhance diplomatic work and increase efficiency, creativity, and service delivery.
