Program Khas Kemahiran dan Pemantapan Bahasa Melayu bagi Kakitangan Ambilan Tempatan (PEKA BM KAT) Series 1/2025 was conducted from 8 May to 24 July 2025. This program was tailored for locally recruited staff serving at Malaysian diplomatic missions, with the main objective of enhancing their foundational Malay conversational skills. Delivered through an engaging and interactive online platform, the program enabled participants to both familiarize themselves with and strengthen their proficiency in the Malay language. A native Malay-speaking trainer led the sessions, ensuring authentic exposure to the language while addressing the specific challenges of online learning.
A total of 24 participants from Southeast Asia and Oceania including Australia, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Japan, Lao-PDR, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam took part in the 42-hour training. The curriculum emphasized essential aspects of Malay, covering pronunciation, self-introductions, food-related conversations, navigation and directions, time and numbers, telephone communication, reading comprehension, and the completion of formal documents. To reinforce learning, simulation activities such as role-plays and interactive discussions were incorporated, providing participants with practical and realistic practice. Upon completion, participants expressed high levels of satisfaction, noting that the program significantly enhanced their Malay communication abilities. They emphasized that these improved skills would contribute positively to their roles within Malaysian diplomatic missions.
On 12th August 2025, Mr. Haris Syarwani Razali, the Acting Director of Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD) delivered the closing remarks and awarded Certificates of Completion and Certificate of Attendance to all the participants through the Zoom platform.
