On 10 July 2024, IDFR welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Sri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, alongside the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, and the Secretary General of the Ministry, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Amran bin Mohamed Zin. This visit, the minister's first since his appointment in 2023, aimed to provide an update on IDFR’s progress and development.
The briefing, held in IDFR’s Treaty Room, was led by the Director General, Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri bin Syed Abdul Rahman. He outlined IDFR's mission, vision, and the integral centres and workforce that drive its operations, emphasising the Institute's pivotal role in providing comprehensive training for diplomats and government officers. Through various courses and programmes, IDFR is committed to enhancing the skills and knowledge of those engaged in diplomacy and foreign relations.
The Foreign Minister praised IDFR’s contributions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting its importance in equipping government officers and diplomats with essential knowledge and experience. The visit included a tour of IDFR's facilities and concluded with lunch at the VIP Dining Hall. The Minister's visit reaffirmed IDFR’s significance as a centre for nurturing diplomatic talent and strengthening Malaysia’s presence in international relations.
