Roundtable Discussion by H.E. Lyudmila G. Vorobyeva, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Malaysia, entitled, “Russia’s Strategic Interest And Role In The Asia Pacific”
A Roundtable Discussion entitled, “Russia’s Strategic Interests and Role in the Asia Pacific”, by H.E. Lyudmila G. Vorobyeva, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Malaysia was held at the IDFR Treaty Room on 7 June 2011.
In her presentation, H.E. Lyudmila G. Vorobyeva highlighted the close historical links between the Russia Federation and countries of the Asia Pacific. She added that the country’s continued interest in the region was reflected by its involvement in various regional institutions and in the Russian Federation agreeing to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2012. Among the regional institutions that the Russian Federation is involved in includes ASEAN, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting and Dialogue, East Asia Summit (EAS), and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue. She also stressed on the Russian Federation’s openness and transparency when dealing with countries of the region and about the common agenda it shared with them in terms of promoting security, economic development as well as peace and stability in the region.
H.E. Lyudmila G. Vorobyeva was accompanied by Mr. Roman E. Ambarov, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and Mr. Ilia A. Shirmanov, Senior Officer, Office of the Trade Counsellor of the Russian Federation. The latter made a short presentation on the Russian Federation’s trade with the countries of the Asia Pacific region.
The event was attended by about 70 guests from government agencies, universities, the private sector and foreign missions in Kuala Lumpur.
