Program Khas Kemahiran dan Pemantapan Bahasa Melayu bagi Kakitangan Ambilan Tempatan (PEKA BM KAT) Series 2/2025 was held from 12 August to 30 October 2025. Designed specifically for locally recruited staff serving at Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad, the program aimed to strengthen their basic conversational proficiency in Malay. Conducted through an interactive online platform, the sessions allowed participants to build familiarity with the language while improving their practical usage. A native Malay-speaking instructor facilitated the training to ensure authentic language exposure and to effectively address challenges related to virtual learning.
A total of 21 participants from Southeast Asia and Oceania including Australia, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Japan, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam completed the 42-hour course. The curriculum covered key components of the Malay language, such as pronunciation, self-introduction, food-related dialogues, giving directions, telling time and numbers, telephone etiquette, reading comprehension, and completing official forms. To enhance retention, the program incorporated simulation-based learning, including role-plays and interactive discussions that offered practical, real-life application. At the end of the program, participants reported high satisfaction levels, noting significant improvements in their Malay communication skills, which they believed would greatly support their responsibilities at Malaysian diplomatic missions.
On 15th December 2025, Ambassador Gloria Tiwet, the Director of Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD) delivered the closing remarks and awarded Certificates of Completion and Certificate of Attendance to all the participants through the Zoom platform. The closing ceremony was attended by course participants, officers from the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), the Communication and Public Diplomacy Division (BKDA), the Inspectorate Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as instructors of the PEKA BM KAT Series 2/2025.
