The Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD), Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), recently conducted the ‘Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP): Language Strategies for Conflict Resolution’ from 7 to 17 July 2026 at IDEAS Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The eleven-day programme brought together 15 mid-level government officials from 14 countries, namely Argentina, Cambodia, Côte D'Ivoire, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Romania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Timor-Leste, Uganda and Ukraine. Designed to strengthen participants’ communication and conflict resolution skills in diplomatic and multicultural settings, the programme provided practical insights into the role of language in de-escalation, negotiation, mediation and peacebuilding.
During the programme, participants engaged in interactive lectures, discussions, simulations and role-play exercises covering topics such as Malaysia’s foreign policy, conflict prevention, diplomatic communication, mediation, negotiation and language-based approaches to conflict resolution. The learning experience was further enriched through a study visit to the Penang State Government, where participants gained insights into the Penang2030 Vision, governance and public administration, conflict resolution, as well as cultural visits to several iconic Malaysian landmarks, fostering greater appreciation of Malaysia’s history, diversity and cultural heritage.
The programme concluded with a Closing and Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 17 July 2026 at Raja Laut Ballroom, IDEAS Hotel Kuala Lumpur. In her closing remarks, Ambassador Gloria Tiwet, Director of the Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy, IDFR, congratulated the participants on their successful completion of the programme and encouraged them to continue promoting dialogue, empathy and collaboration in addressing conflicts within their respective professional and international environments.
