Reading Deep, Thinking Sharp

The Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD) recently conducted a three-day course titled, “Reading Deep, Thinking Sharp”, from 7 to 9 July 2026 at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR). The course was conducted with the aim to equip the participants with critical reading skills, enabling them to comprehend official documents thoroughly.


Through the course, the participants received gradual guidance on text analysis through hands-on lessons in skimming, scanning, information extraction, evidence testing and inference techniques. In addition, the course also provided the participants with ample opportunities to apply what they learned through interactive group activities and final presentations to share and discuss their analysis with one another.


The government officers who participated in this course came from various ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang Biodiversity Institute, Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Department of Agriculture and Forest Research Institute Malaysia.


Overall, the course equipped the participants with practical tools to strengthen their reading capabilities, helping them process official workplace documents with better clarity and precision.
