DTC AO 2016 group photoWith Malaysia’s successful chairmanship of ASEAN in 2015 and the success of a similar diplomatic training course in October 2015, IDFR once again was chosen to organise the ‘Diplomatic Training Course for ASEAN Attachment Officers 2016’ from 14 to 25 November 2016. 11 government officials from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) presently attached for one year to the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta under the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) were in Kuala Lumpur to enhance their understanding on the theories, practices and elements of diplomacy, ASEAN and international affairs. Three officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia also attended the training.

Themes covered include regional issues, diplomacy, negotiation skills, presentation skills, and communication skills. The training also included visits to Malaysian government agencies such as Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), SME Corp.
