The first series of SiMPLE (Special Malay Proficiency Language Enhancement Programme) for 2024 was recently conducted by the Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD). This programme is tailored specifically for the Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) working at Malaysian diplomatic missions overseas. This programme is intended exclusively for Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) employed by Malaysian diplomatic missions overseas specifically aimed to train participants to converse within the basic level of the Malay language. Twenty-five participants from nine Malaysian Missions including Abuja, Accra, Algiers, Conakry, Dakar, Harare, Pretoria, Rabat, and Windhoek participated in the inaugural series for 2024, which ran from May 14 to July 30, 2024. The programme was a 7-day course held on every Tuesday and Thursday via Zoom from 5.00 to 7.00pm (Malaysian time).
The course's main goal was to provide the nominated LRS a foundational understanding of the Malay language so they could carry out their everyday responsibilities and obligations at missions more effectively. The 42-hour programme focused on basic Malay such as its sound systems, introduction to the Malay language and also small talks which covered food, weather, directions and numbers to allow a foundational basis of understanding of the language. Although held online, the participants of this programme still engaged in interactive sessions with other fellow participants which consisted of virtual discussions, role-playing, practice sessions, simulations and integrated learning.
Upon the programme's completion, attendees conveyed their contentment with the abilities they had gained and the vibrant, engaging educational setting that boosted their will of learning all the while assisting them to better serve at our missions abroad.
On August 20th 2024, Dato Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman, the Director General of IDFR, delivered the closing remarks and awarded Certificates of Completion and Certificate of Attendance to all the participants through the Zoom platform.
