IDFR recently conducted the MTCP: Economic Diplomacy 2020 from 29 September 2020-1 October 2020. The course focuses on exposing the participants to, among others, Malaysia’s strategic plans and economic policies, negotiation, and international trade, and providing an overview of Malaysia’s transformation and the National economic growth.
This year, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the course was offered to serving diplomats in Kuala Lumpur instead of those in their home country. A total of 19 diplomats and two officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia were selected to attend this three-day course.
The course was designed to enhance the participants’ knowledge through lectures, discussions, simulation exercises, and study and networking visits. The topics covered include Introduction to Economic Diplomacy, Malaysia's Foreign Policy, ASEAN Economic Community, Malaysia's International Trade Policy, Malaysia External Trade Development, Post-COVID 19 Economic Recovery, Malaysian Palm Oil & International Market Potentials, and Future Scenarios & Economic Diplomacy. A networking dinner with representatives from Malaysian companies such as PETRONAS, EV Dynamics Sdn Bhd, AirAsia and Datasonic Innovation Sdn Bhd was also part of the programme.
