9th ASEAN Leadership Forum “One Community, One Destiny – Growing ASEAN For Shared Prosperity” April 4 – 6, 2012 - Phnom Penh, Cambodia

A representative from IDFR attended the 9th ASEAN Leadership Forum with the theme “One Community, One Destiny – Growing ASEAN For Shared Prosperity”. It was held on the 4 – 6 April 2012, at the Cambodiana Hotel and Sunway Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The 3-day Forum was in 3 parts – the Welcoming Dinner on the 4 April 2012 (Cambodiana Hotel, Cambodia), the ASEAN Leadership Forum on the 5 April 2012 (Cambodiana Hotel, Cambodia), and the ASEAN Young Leaders Dialogue on the 6 April 2012 (Sunway Hotel, Cambodia). The Forum was made possible with the collaboration between Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) and the Ministry of Commerce Cambodia, and with the support from the Government of the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Business Forum. The 9th ASEAN Leadership Forum hoped to serve as an important platform to critically discuss and analyse the future of ASEAN and the ASEAN regional cooperation.

The Forum brought together prominent and visionary thinkers, leaders, dignitaries and personalities sharing their thoughts on what ASEAN means to them and experiences as well as hopes for a strong ASEAN integration. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, H.E. Samdech Hun Sen delivered the Opening Keynote Address on “One Community, One Destiny: Cambodia’s Vision for ASEAN as ASEAN Chair 2012” at the Welcoming Dinner. Meanwhile our Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak delivered his Leadership Keynote Address entitled “Leadership Challenges in ASEAN: Meeting Tomorrow’s Needs and Expectations”.

The ASEAN Leadership Forum on the 5 April 2012 and 6 April 2012 featured various topics such as ASEAN connectivity and integration, role of ASEAN on non-traditional threads, sustainability development and green growth, leadership challenges, and economic challenges and prospects. The Forum also included an ASEAN Young Leaders Dialogue on the 6 April 2012 where younger and emerging leaders shared their thoughts and perspectives on issues for instance ASEAN & Building an ASEAN Community, Social Economy and Social Enterprises, Models of good regulatory framework for ASEAN, Understanding G8 and how it can shape ASEAN’s growth, forging closer ties with G8, and building the sense of community among the next generation of leaders.
